Alpha Terpineol in Food

by

Did you know that many essential oil constituents are also found in fruits, vegetables and other foods? This simple fact shows us that our bodies are used to processing them in very small amounts.

Our third constituent in this series is alpha-terpineol. Unlike previous examples it is not a major constituent in any essential oil, yet it plays an important synergistic role, especially in relation to antimicrobial activity. alpha-Terpineol is found at 5-10% in essential oils of distilled Lime, Palo Santo, Tea tree and Eucalyptus radiata. It is also found, in VERY much smaller amounts, in apples, blueberries and limes.
