Sandalwood and inhalation

This finding is in conflict with other studies, showing a sedative effect of Sandalwood oil when administered transdermally or by inhalation in lower concentration.

The authors concluded that the increase in ANS activity is due to trigeminal nerve stimulation. This is not a therapeutic stimulation, but a physiological reaction to a substance that has become an irritant due to over-exposure.
